CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE

As a result of all bargaining units agreeing to a five year wage freeze, your retirement contribution will be lowered by .7% once the SDCERS Board authorizes revisions to the City’s and employee’s contributions to the pension system. The following increases will be distributed over the first three years of the contract, after those first three years, we will then have the ability to negotiate for more non-pensionable increases in FY17 and FY 18. In addition In the first year of the contract, a new tiered system will be established, in order to provide health care allotments based on: 1. In FY 14, new tiers will be established as follows: A.Health Waiver-$5,000.00 B. Employee Only-$6000.00 C.Employee & Spouse/Domestic Partner-$7,210.00 D.Employee & Children-$6,5550.00 E. Employee & Spouse/Domestic Partner & Children-$8,250. F. FY 15 the annual Flexible Benefit Plan allotment will be increased by $903.00 from the FY14 annual allotment in each tier. Bereavement leave will increase from up to 3 days, to up to 5 days in a fiscal year, for the death of a spouse, father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, son or daughter including step, foster or adopted. 3. During the term of this 5 year contract, for each year, all full time employees will continue to receive 16 hours of additional Discretionary leave each year. Three-quarter employees will receive 12 hours and half-time employees will receive 8 hours. These hours must be used before June 30th of each year. 4. We have also negotiated language that will allow us to begin contracting back in work which we have lost to private contractors. This will give us the opportunity to bring work back into the City and allow our workforces to continue to grow rather than having our work contracted out. You will be allowed an hour of City time to come to the Union Hall and vote to ratify the agreement. Voting will be held Wednesday June 5th and Thursday June 6th from 8am to 5pm on both days. Only full dues paying members will be allowed to vote. I want to thank your negotiating team for their hard work and dedication.
