Statement of Support of Mayor Gloria

     AFSCME Local 127 supports Mayor Todd Gloria. Put simply, Mayor Gloria continues to address, rather than defer and avoid, hard problems. Mayor Gloria has worked to stabilize finances. Although there is much more work to do both on austerity and on revenue, the Mayor has helped reduce the structural budget deficit by more than two-thirds in the interest of fiscal responsibility. Moreover, Mayor Gloria has worked to improve aging infrastructure. The Mayor has consistently allocated and invested funding to repair sidewalks and streetlights and to “fix the damn roads” to provide these essential services to San Diegans. And importantly, Mayor Gloria has helped to address homelessness. From getting the unsheltered off the streets and into beds to removing unsafe conditions for the housed population to reducing potential fire risks for all, the Mayor has remained steadfast in his commitment to remedy this complex and comprehensive public health and safety issue. For these reasons and more, AFSCME Local 127 supports Mayor Todd Gloria.
