Mat Kostrinsky brings over three decades of experience in labor, government policy, and public service to AFSCME Local 127. An SDSU alumnus, Mat has dedicated his career to navigating the complexities of government and labor relations, advocating for the essential workers who keep our communities running.

Mat’s expertise is built on a 20-year foundation of working directly for public sector unions. His deep background includes negotiating contracts, handling grievances, and representing members in mediations and arbitrations. As a professional consultant specializing in municipal affairs, he possesses a technical understanding of city budgeting, infrastructure, and the legislative processes that impact your daily work.

In addition to his labor work, Mat has spent 30 years at the forefront of the political arena—consulting for candidates, leading ballot measures, and advising unions on effective political action. He is currently focused on ensuring Local 127’s governing structures are modern, transparent, and built to meet the needs of today’s workforce.

Mat is deeply rooted in the San Diego community, where he lives with his wife and two sons. Whether he is analyzing policy, fighting for worker equity, or leading strategic campaigns, his goal remains the same: strengthening the voice of Local 127 members and ensuring you receive the respect and resources you deserve.
