AFSCME Local 127 attends San Diego Employee Appreciation Day

The contributions of public service workers can often go unnoticed by their employers. However, on Oct. 1, the City of San Diego held an event to honor the hard-working employees that keep the City going.
AFSCME Local 127, which represents around 2,000 San Diego City employees, was out in full force at Saturday’s event. There was plenty of fun activities and delicious food for the entire family. There were potato sack races, hula hoop competitions, and bouncy houses, but the biggest hit of the event was the ice cream that AFSCME Local 127 provided to everyone in attendance.
San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria stopped by to show his appreciation for city employees. During his speech, Gloria announced the 2021 and 2022 employees of the year, including Local 127 members Richard Galloway and Ty Santineau, a sanitation driver 2 and grounds maintenance worker 2 respectively.
An employee appreciation event is a wonderful way for the City of San Diego to honor its employees, but as Mayor Gloria stated, the best way the City shows its appreciation for its employees is on their pay check every two weeks. Mayor Gloria and the city councilmembers in attendance reaffirmed their commitment to making sure that City employees have strong wages and benefits.
Overall, the San Diego Employee Appreciation event was successful, and we look forward to next year’s event.
